Nicosia: Tale of Two Cities
Nicosia is the largest city, the capital and seat of government of the republic of Cyprus.
This adorable old city has incorporated elements of the many empires and kingdoms that have claimed it over centuries stretching back to the Bronze Age. The thick city wall, built in the 1600s by the Venetians, these days divides the ancient part of the city from the modern. If you step through the stone gates you will enter a place where the past is still alive.
So much to do and see
There is so much to do and see in Nicosia. Greater Nicosia sprawls for kilometres on end, but the Old City is small enough to navigate on foot. Wandering around the Old City is an interesting experience in itself, entering small shop where owners still produce genuine handcrafted items.
The food is typical Greek-Turkish mixture, but all delicious and very good value for the money.
