FALL IN LOVE WITH PAPHOS
Where the mythical Greek goddess of love and beauty was born
This stunning coastal holiday location will take a special place in your heart. As one of the most popular destinations in Cyprus, Paphos offers countless activities for every type of holiday. Notably, you cannot talk about Paphos without mentioning the beauty goddess Aphrodite and Aphrodite’s Rock. According to legends, she rose from the clear blue waves between the rocks.
This remarkable spot attracts tourists year-round, so remember to bring your camera to capture the panoramic views. After visiting Aphrodite’s Rock, swim in the pools at the beach and enjoy a calm day with your family. Arriving at the beach is easy; simply take the small path below the road, which leads you to both the beach and the rock.
Explore the Blue Lagoon
From the Baths of Aphrodite, rent a car and take a quick drive to the Blue Lagoon. It is one of the most popular attractions in Paphos. With crystal-clear waters, the Blue Lagoon coastline offers the most beautiful view and beach experience. Additionally, shuttle services are available if you are traveling with family or a larger group. The path to the Lagoon is somewhat adventurous, being a dirt and bumpy road, but it is a must-visit when in Paphos.
Get in Contact with Your Archaeological Side
Besides breath-taking views and beaches, Paphos has much more to offer. For history enthusiasts, the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park is a great location. Explore the historical ruins from the Middle Ages to the Roman Empire, where time seems to stand still with its original remains of buildings, mosaics, statues, and murals. Within the park, you will find the ancient Egyptian-inspired Tomb of the Kings. This site, used during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, features underground chambers hand-carved in the rocks to resemble houses. Despite the name, no kings were buried in the Tomb of the Kings. However, it remains a magical place to visit and feel the history.
Embark on an Unforgettable Hike
For adventure-seekers, bring your hiking shoes and explore the three-kilometer gorge hike in the Akamas Peninsula of Paphos. The impressive Avakas Gorge consists of tall rock formations, some reaching up to 30 meters, formed by years of limestone erosion.
Although the hike can be slippery and wet, it is a unique experience. Enjoy the local flora and fauna, and you might even spot wild animals such as foxes, falcons, hares, owls, fruit bats, and reptiles. This hike is challenging, so it’s not advisable for small children. Bring plenty of water as you may be under the sun for most of the hike.
Experience the Beauty of Lara Beach
Travel south from the Akamas Peninsula to Lara Beach, a secluded paradise. This area is protected because it is where green turtle eggs hatch. If you are lucky, you can see the baby turtles making their way to the ocean. Because of this natural miracle, it is not allowed to raise sun umbrellas on the beach, so there are few shaded areas.
Nevertheless, this private beach offers clear blue waters and soft sand for a great day with the family. Bring food and drinks, as the path to Lara Beach requires an off-road vehicle, and there are no beachfront restaurants. Be sure to take your rubbish with you to keep this paradise clean for the turtles.
Change the Scenery
Paphos offers more than just beaches and archaeological sites. For a different experience, drive to the Troodos Mountains. Explore the mountain villages, local food, and cooler temperatures. This range includes Mount Olympus, the highest peak in Cyprus. Villages are located at the mountain’s foot, and as you go higher, pine forests become covered in snow, perfect for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. The only mountain ski resort, Ski Cyprus, offers trails for beginners to experienced skiers.
Visit Omodos, one of the most popular and tourist-friendly villages in the Troodos area. Located at the bottom of the mountains, it has incredible views of surrounding wineries. With a population of only 300, Omodos is charming and offers local produce and crafts. Almost every resident produces wine, making it a great place for a wine tasting tour.
The Troodos National Park covers 45% of the mountain range, making it ideal for hiking and immersing in scenic nature views. Spot endangered wildlife, rare plants, stunning waterfalls, and villas all around.
Enjoy Family Holidays with Ease
Paphos is kid-friendly, with many attractions to entertain the little ones. During hot summer days, visit the largest water park in the area, the Aphrodite Water Park. With 17 attractions for all ages, from toddlers to teens, it offers high-speed plunges, tube races, and a Lazy River for relaxation.
For a break from water activities, visit the Paphos Zoo. Your family can interact with animals like Asian Elephants, feed Giraffes and Lemurs, and meet snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tigers, and lions. No bookings are needed; simply show up and enjoy.
