Callum Scott's journey didn't start on a grand stage, but in much humbler surroundings. Growing up in Kingston upon Hull, Scott’s passion for singing was something he kept mostly to himself, as he worked a regular job in human resources. It wasn’t until his sister, Jade, encouraged him to enter a local talent competition in 2013 Hull Daily Mail’s Star Search that his musical potential really began to emerge. He won that competition, which gave him the confidence to take his performances beyond the small local gigs he had been doing up to that point. His early gigs included singing in a Maroon 5 tribute band, but even then, few could have predicted how rapidly his career would ascend just a couple of years later.

Everything changed for Callum Scott when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2015. His performance of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own left a lasting impression on both the audience and the judges, especially Simon Cowell, who pressed the golden buzzer, sending Callum straight through to the semifinals. Although he didn’t win the competition, his heartfelt and vulnerable rendition of the song struck a chord with fans around the world, leading him to release a studio version shortly after the show. This version became a massive hit globally, climbing the charts in countries like the UK, the US, and Australia, proving that Scott’s appeal was truly international.

In 2018, Callum Scott solidified his place in the music industry with the release of his debut album, Only Human. The album showcased his unique blend of emotive ballads and pop sensibility, with standout tracks like You Are the Reason and No Matter What. The former became one of his most popular songs, resonating with fans for its raw emotional delivery and powerful lyrics about love and loss. The latter dealt with deeply personal themes of acceptance, something Callum has spoken about extensively, particularly regarding his own experiences growing up as a gay man. His openness about his struggles with identity and mental health has made him a relatable figure for many of his fans, further deepening their connection to his music.
